The Western Idaho Fair ended Sunday evening, Aug 26th. FHWA - Idaho Division, ITD Office of Highway Safety, and ITD DMV provided Safety, Registration and Travel Information and demonstrated the effectiveness of seat belts using the Division?s ?Seat Belt Barbie? presentation. Approximately 60 dozen eggs were broken demonstrating the effectiveness of seatbelts over the 10 days of the fair. Other safety information such as proper booster and child safety seat procedures, id kits, and DUI, Aggressive Driving, and other hazard information were provided to the general public.
Joint participation with ITD DMV in the Fair, as well as brochures and other safety information provided by ITD Office of Traffic Safety, enables the FHWA - Idaho Division to "Show the Flag" to the 250,000 fair attendees for less than $850. ITD DMV contributed significantly by manning the booth for the entire daily shifts, and conducting the seatbelt safety demonstration when FHWA personnel could not be present.
Seat Belt awareness efforts like this have contributed to the increase in seat belt usage of 72% in 2003 to 79.8% in 2006.
