We would like to take a moment to honor a Seat Belt Coalition member, Officer Kyle Wills, a Law Enforcement Liaison (LEL) for the ITD Office of Highway Safety, and a motorcycle officer on the traffic team for the Boise City Police Department. His willingness and dedication for going above and beyond the call of duty has improved the education and safety of many individuals.
An LEL, Wills is able to reach out to Idaho citizens with information and lessons that save lives and make Idaho a safer place.

Seat Belt Coalition Update
The Idaho Seat Belt Coalition convened Monday, Dec. 11, 2006, to discuss the results of the November Mobilization, legislative survey results, plans for the January “Empty Shoes” event, and other issues pertaining to the coalition. Members from around the state joined via video conference and participated in planning the next steps for the coalition.

Empty Shoes
Planning for the Empty Shoes event has begun. This week long demonstration will focus on raising awareness about the number of Idaho fatalities that resulted from people not wearing their seat belts. The shoes will travel from Coeur d’Alene to Lewiston, through Boise, and then to Eastern Idaho, stopping in Twin Falls, Pocatello, and Idaho Falls. The shoes will represent individuals killed in unbelted traffic crashes in each of Idaho’s six districts.
